Our Projects

Combined, we have over 50 years experience, gained on a variety of projects throughout the world. But no two engineering projects are alike.

Sometimes we manage a project from the very start and continue to be involved until the end reports. Other times we are brought in to provide specialist services in specific areas. Each brings different challenges. Each has different outcomes.

We would like to share just a few of these projects here.

NGN - Risk Review (670) Risk Management

Northern Gas Networks

Leeds, England
18 Mar 2015 - 18 Mar 2015

QEM Solutions have been asked to develop a risk based Priority Review process to outline the method in which NGN and if necessary subsequent partners may carry out prioritised reviews of the company policies, management procedures, specifications and standards.

The Review consisted of identifying the relevant risk variables, establishing risk scales suitable for the risk, collecting data to complete the risk analysis, analysing the risks to apply weightings to risk variables and then prioritising high risk documents for review in order of impact.

When identifying the risks, the hard facts needed to be analysed and also the knowledge and expertise of the people using the specifications need to be heard with the responses quantified and reviewed prior to the development of the priority list.

Risks included but were not limited to;

  • Documents that could effect planned works
  • References that were obsolete e.g. ISO standards
  • Governing Interactions (Legislation)
  • Last review date
  • Cost implementations for non-compliance
  • Documents effected by Safety / Engineering Bulletins and quantity of Deviations
  • A simple questionnaire for Operations Personnel to ensure their voice was heard.

This qualitative and quantitative approach proved the key success of the project and highlighted many anomalies that would not have been shown if only a quantitative approach was taken.

The end result of this was a matrix whereby a scoring system allowed Northern Gas Networks to assess the necessity and urgency in which changes to these documents were required.

Benefits included:

  • Out of the Box thinking and innovative data collection techniques
  • Back-up support from multi-disciplined engineers and managers to ensure that all areas were addressed completing the review process.
  • pre-established tools and trackers designed specifically for this process and this client.
