News Spotlight The Safety of Pipelines: Keeping the country running

The UK energy industry relies on unseen assets to keep it ticking over. Buried deep below ground, often carrying hazardous substances, and frequently managed by different operators, pipelines quietly provide our country’s energy needs and more. But how do we ensure that they’re safe, compliant, and conform to a standard that makes the whole thing work for the greater good?

Utility Week Live 2022

It’s been three long years, thanks to COVID 19, and QEM Solutions are more than ready to re-unite with fellow exhibitors at Utility Week Live in Birmingham, this May.

The exhibition – better than ever

Held in Birmingham’s NEC on 17-18 May, Utility Week Live (UWL) is the UK’s only pan-utility exhibition. It brings people from all UK utilities together to share insights that help strategic, technical, and operational professionals solve the challenges they face in the industry today. It’s vibrant and cutting-edge: everyone who attends will have access to ideas from sector-leading companies across two days of live showcases.

Showcasing our Safe Work System

You’ll find us at Stand D52, where we’ll showcase Mineral Blue, our award-winning Safe Work System – already trusted by Cadent, SGN, IGEM, Water Corporation and NGN. Mineral Blue brings together five modules that resolve the headaches that often affect large utilities projects, including permit control, isolations, competency data, and more. If site safety is on your mind, be sure to visit, or even better, get in touch now, so we can arrange a proper meeting at the exhibition.

A special challenge for you

If you do visit our stand, we’ll have a little something magic up our sleeves. Our isolations challenge features a hands-on ‘mini-site’ which we’ll ask you to lock out and make safe against the clock. You’ll be amazed how quickly you can, with our software to hand. There’s a leaderboard and prizes too, so don’t fill your dance card without seeing us! Although it’s a bit of fun, our challenge has its serious side – keeping the workforce safe – and will show you how easily our system could take care of this for you.

This year’s UWL focus

This year, the UWL focuses on whether utilities really are ready to lead the charge on net zero. And are they genuinely creating cultures of innovation – or is it just so much lip service? These are topics that are close to our hearts at QEM. We’re deeply committed to net zero as we support the major gas networks trial hydrogen as a clean alternative. We’re also working hard to disrupt industry ‘tradition’ with software that supports innovative working – and that’s not just Mineral Blue.

Get in touch

If you’re interested in Safe Work Systems, our work with hydrogen, or software to help you work better, get in touch, or look out for us at Stand D52.
